The cottage

Slow mornings, fresh air, and a woodburner for the evenings.

Queens Cottage sits on the lane down to Glass Lake, close enough to see the lake from the garden whilst sitting on the terrace.

Inside it's light and unfussy — limewashed walls, a deep sofa you'll lose an afternoon to, and a kitchen built for lazy fry-ups and the odd ambitious dinner. Three bedrooms sleep six, and the spaniel is just as welcome as you are.

It's the kind of place regulars rebook a year ahead. Booking straight through us means a fairer price for you and a real person to text when the key won't turn.

"Booked direct after staying once through a platform and we'll never go back. Same lovely cottage, better price, and Jane replied within minutes when we couldn't find the bin day."

"Spotless, warm, and the sea view is exactly as the photos show — no surprises. The dogs loved the garden. Already rebooked for next spring."

"You can tell it's owned by people who care. The little welcome pack and the walking guide made it feel personal. Three minutes to the lake was no exaggeration."

We're John & Jane — and we live just up the lane.

We bought Queens Cottage in 2016 and have looked after every guest personally since. We're not a faceless company or a remote investor — we're ten minutes away, and we genuinely want your stay to be the best week of your year.

Booking direct with us means you reach a real person, not a call centre. It also means we keep more of what you pay instead of handing it to a platform — so we can keep the cottage immaculate and the price fair.

Good to know

Questions, answered honestly.

Is it safe to book here rather than a big platform?

Yes. Payment is taken through Stripe, the same secure processor used by millions of businesses — your card details are encrypted and never seen by us. You'll get instant written confirmation and a booking reference, and free cancellation up to 14 days before arrival.

What are the check-in and check-out times?

Check in from 4pm, check out by 10am. We use a key safe so you can arrive whenever suits you — no waiting around for a handover. We'll text the code the day before.

Can we bring our dog?

Absolutely — up to two well-behaved dogs stay free. We provide towels, bowls and a garden tie-out. We just ask they're not left alone in the cottage and stay off the beds.

What's your cancellation policy?

Full refund if you cancel 14 or more days before arrival. Within 14 days, your deposit is retained but the balance is refundable. We'll always try to be reasonable if life gets in the way.

How do we get the keys?

There's a key safe by the front door. We send you the code the day before arrival, along with directions and parking details. Jane lives ten minutes away if anything comes up.
